      The Science Behind Classic Lashes

As a Lash Technician, it can be a bit overwhelming to pick out the right Eyelash Extensions for Classic Lashes. Couple that with the fact that there is so much information out there about what you should use, and some of this information is rather outdated, which could potentially lead to lash damage if used improperly. Luckily for all Lash Artists out there, we’re here to help keep you up to date.

What Do We Mean by Correct Application?

Each individual natural eyelash should be isolated before a Classic extension is placed on it, so you’ll need a good pair of Isolation Tweezers as an important step towards good application. Natural lashes grow independently, so lashes stuck together can pull against one another, causing discomfort and potential damage. These are called stickies, and checking for them is an essential part of every treatment.

Isolating a natural lash during eyelash extension application

Proper application also refers to the amount of lash glue used. Too much adhesive can increase the risk of stickies, so follow your adhesive instructions and training to pick up an appropriate amount. If your glue drop becomes stringy or changes consistency, replace it with a fresh drop and check the bottle’s condition and opening date. Monitor your room temperature and humidity using a Digital Hygrometer so that you can work within your adhesive’s recommended conditions.

If you find that you’re having to hold the extension on the lash for a long time or you’re ending up with lots of stickies, check your isolation, adhesive amount and room conditions first. Low humidity can slow curing. If your conditions are within the recommended range and the adhesive still cures too slowly for your placement speed, a faster-drying glue may be worth considering.

Which Lashes Should You Use for Classic Lash Extensions?

There are lots of thicknesses for a reason—different clients have different needs! Let’s have a closer look at which thicknesses are available for Classic eyelash extensions and how to choose between them. Always assess the length, strength and condition of each natural lash: diameter alone doesn’t determine whether an extension is suitable.

0.10 lashes give a very natural look and are a lighter option than thicker round Classic extensions of the same length. They can also be used for 2D Volume where the natural lash can support the combined weight, making this thickness an option for Hybrid extensions as well as Classics.

0.12 and 0.15 lashes give more of a mascara effect. They add definition without being super dramatic, turn heads without being super obvious and give your client a little je ne sais quoi. Choose the thickness and length according to the natural lash’s capacity to support them.

0.18 Classic lashes create a bolder, more defined finish. As a heavier option, they require careful assessment and should only be considered for natural lashes strong enough to support them.

0.20 round Classic lashes are heavier again, so don’t choose them simply for extra drama. Assess suitability carefully and consider a lighter alternative. Flat Lashes can create a fuller-looking finish with less weight than round extensions of a comparable visible width. Check the specific product’s thickness and weight guidance when selecting them.
