The Beginner’s Guide for Clients Preparing for Their First Eyelash Extensions
If you’re a Lash Technician looking to help your new clients prepare for their first eyelash extension appointment, you’ve come to the right place. Getting Eyelash Extensions for the first time is an exciting experience, but it can also be a bit daunting for those who are new to the process. Here’s a handy guide you can share with your clients so they can ensure their lash appointment goes smoothly and get the most out of their extensions.
Preparing for Their Lash Appointment
Start with a Clean Slate: Advise your clients to come to their lash appointment with a clean face and eyes. They should remove all makeup, especially around the eyes and eyelashes. Remind them to avoid leaving cleanser, mascara or skincare residue on their lashes, as this can interfere with preparation and attachment when using lash adhesive.
Consider Skipping the Caffeine: If caffeine makes your clients feel restless or their eyelids flutter, suggest avoiding it before their appointment. Being able to relax with their eyes comfortably closed makes the treatment easier for everyone.
Wear Something Comfortable: Lash appointments can take around 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the set and technician. Suggest comfortable clothing, as clients will be lying down with their eyes closed for a while.
Ditch the Eye Cream: On the day of their appointment, ask clients to avoid applying eye cream or oily skincare around the lash line. This helps keep the area ready for professional preparation.
Arrive Early: Encourage clients to arrive a little early. This gives them time to relax, complete any necessary paperwork and ask last-minute questions without feeling rushed. A consultation is a great opportunity to discuss their preferences and choose a suitable style based on their natural lashes and desired result.
Aftercare Advice for Lash Extensions
Your client has finally jumped into the world of lash extensions with a stunning new set. Now it’s time to help them care for it. Here’s how they can keep their lashes looking fabulous between appointments:
Follow Treatment-Specific Guidance: Explain when clients can wet and cleanse their lashes according to the adhesive and finishing products used, including Superbonder where applicable. Give clear instructions rather than applying the same waiting period to every treatment.
Be Gentle: Remind clients to avoid rubbing, picking or pulling their lashes. Demonstrate daily cleansing with a suitable Lash Shampoo and Cleansing Lash Brush, following the product instructions and rinsing thoroughly.
Daily Lash Brushing: Offer clients a Lash Brush at the end of their appointment and show them how to brush gently once their lashes are dry. This helps keep the set looking neat without tugging at the attachments.
Choose Suitable Products: Encourage clients to use makeup, cleansers and skincare compatible with their extensions and the adhesive system used. Avoid allowing heavy product residue to build up around the lash line, and explain how to remove makeup gently.
Skip the Mascara Where Possible: One of the perks of lash extensions is that there’s usually no need for mascara. If a client wants to use it, discuss whether it is appropriate for their particular set. Check the current instructions for products such as InLei® Frida Mascara before recommending them, and explain suitable application and removal. Mascara may be unsuitable for Volume fans because it can clump them together.
Schedule Regular Infills: To keep lashes looking full and fresh, discuss a suitable infill schedule. Many clients return around every 2–3 weeks, but the interval depends on their natural lash cycle, remaining extensions and maintenance needs.
By sharing these preparation tips and clear aftercare instructions, you’re helping clients feel confident about their first appointment and caring for their lashes afterwards. They’ll not only enjoy the process more but also understand how to maintain their beautiful new set. Happy lashing!
