Work Smart, Not Hard: 10 Tips for Maximising Your Time Without Burning Out
The festive season can bring a big increase in bookings, and sometimes it feels like there simply aren’t enough hours in the day! A few small changes to your routine can help appointments run more smoothly and leave you with a little more breathing room. Here are our favourite ways to save time while giving every client the care they deserve.
1. Try Easy Fanning Lashes
Easy Fanning Lashes take some of the work out of creating volume fans. Each strip has multiple layers of lashes, helping the fibres open into a fan when picked up with your lash tweezers.
Once you’ve got the hang of working with them, they can help you spend less time making fans. Their layered lengths are also lovely for creating a soft, textured finish.
2. Keep Premade Fans in Your Kit
Premade Fans are another handy option for busy appointment books. With the fans already made, you can focus on isolation, placement and creating your client’s chosen look.
As with handmade fans, choose a suitable diameter, length and fan size for each natural lash. Good isolation and careful attachment remain essential, whichever type of fan you use.
You can use premades throughout a set or alongside handmade fans. Either way, having them ready can help reduce the time you spend fanning.
3. Work Through the Lash Layers
Working in layers can make it easier to see and isolate the lashes you’re applying extensions to. If you’ve been trained in taping techniques, suitable tape from your eye patches and tape supplies can help you gently move completed lashes out of the way.
Keep the client’s eyes fully closed, avoid placing tape where it could touch the eye, and take care when applying and removing it. The aim is better access without pulling on the natural lashes.
Work through the accessible layers methodically, checking isolation as you go. A clear routine can save you from repeatedly searching for the next lash.
4. Encourage Clients to Arrive with Clean Lashes
A friendly reminder to arrive without eye makeup can make the start of an appointment much smoother. Encourage clients to follow their usual lash cleansing routine before coming in.
You can also offer Foam Cleanser and a clean Cleansing Brush for clients to use according to the product instructions when they arrive. Explain how to use them gently and provide a suitable place to rinse.
Always check the lashes yourself afterwards and complete the appropriate professional pre-treatment. A client’s cleanse is a helpful first step, rather than a replacement for your preparation routine.
5. Plan Your Coverage
Working methodically through the layers can help you create an even-looking set without jumping between different areas. Plan your coverage around the style agreed with your client and the natural lashes that are suitable for extensions.
Avoid rushing to attach an extension to every tiny lash. Choose appropriate lengths and weights, keep checking for gaps and stickies, and allow enough time to finish the set carefully.
6. Organise Your Lash Trolley
We can’t stress this one enough: knowing where everything lives makes appointments so much easier. A few minutes spent organising your trolley can save you from searching for products halfway through a treatment.
Keep your most-used supplies within easy reach, separate clean tools from used ones, and give everything a regular home. Explore our lash storage solutions for a little inspiration.
7. Keep Track of Your Stock
Running out of a favourite curl or your last bottle of glue can throw your whole day off. Set aside time regularly to check your supplies and make a shopping list before anything runs too low.
Base your orders on what you actually use, and check expiry dates before stocking up. Buying more than you can use can be just as frustrating as running out!
8. Give Pre-Treatment the Time It Needs
There are plenty of places to save time, but your pre-treatment routine deserves your full attention. Makeup, oils and other residue can interfere with the adhesive bond and contribute to poor retention.
Check that the natural lashes are thoroughly prepared and dry before application, following the instructions for the products you use. A consistent routine gives your sets a better start and can help avoid unnecessary troubleshooting later.
9. Have a Spare Set of Tweezers
A second set of tweezers is a small addition that can make a big difference. It gives you a backup if you drop a pair and helps you allow enough time for proper cleaning and disinfection between clients.
If you’ve had a tweezer-related accident, take a look at our accidental damage policy to check the available cover and conditions.
Use a suitable product, such as InLei® F Plus sanitising liquid, according to its instructions and your tool manufacturer’s guidance. Follow the specified preparation, contact time, rinsing and drying requirements.
Once your tweezers are clean, disinfected and completely dry, store them in a clean tweezer holder or suitable organiser. Having a spare set helps you keep appointments moving while giving every tool the care it needs.
10. Prepare Your Lash Palettes
Organising your lash strips in advance makes it easier to find the right lengths, curls and diameters during an appointment. A Magnetic Lash Palette Organiser can help keep your prepared palettes together between treatments.
You could arrange palettes by treatment type or prepare the combinations you regularly use for returning clients. Keep them protected from dust and contamination, and always check your client’s natural lashes and treatment plan before deciding what to use.
A little preparation means less time searching through trays and more time focusing on your application.
So, what will you do with those saved minutes? Enjoy a proper lunch break, catch up on Christmas shopping, or simply give yourself a little more space between appointments. Your diary—and your shoulders—will thank you!
